COURSE OBJECTIVE:                                                             
The objective of this course is to provide the basic rules and concepts to understand the design of a progressive die strip layout. It will cover the thought process for determining the strip layout from the CAD model.  Included will be: carrier connection & selection process; how to determine the number of drawing operations; division of gutting, trimming, piercing , and flanging operations; number of idle stations, as well as other types of die operations required to finish the stamping.  Production issues related to the size and length of the strip will also be discussed.  Students will work in groups to evaluate various types of strip layouts.
