Technical Writer

The Technical Writer is responsible for writing, reviewing, editing and coordinating a wide range of materials, including online help, training manuals, user guides, tutorials, demonstration videos, etc. as well as editing scientific papers, research reports, grant applications and other technical and marketing materials.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation
  • Identify appropriate medium for message or audience, such as copy/screenshots or online videos
  • Organize and write supporting documents for software products
  • Use screen captures, images, drawings, diagrams, animation to increase users’ understanding
  • Standardize content across platforms and media
  • Reviewing and editing technical papers, grant applications, research reports, press releases, web site content and other technical documentation
  • Work with the Product and Sales team to improve the end-user experience
  • Work with colleagues to manage the flow of information among project workgroups during development, documentation and testing
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, product managers and engineers
  • Assist Quality Assurance department with testing various aspects of software user interface
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Skills and Behaviour:

  • Proven ability to fully understand, synthesize and translate material of a highly technical nature into text that is accessible to a diverse audience of readers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining good working relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including well-developed editorial skills
  • Ability to grasp new concepts; understand technical subject matter and new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to write short copy, long copy (research proposals and reports), and research presentation material (power point) for broad audiences (technical reviewers and lay audiences)
  • Proven ability to think critically and analytically with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task coupled with excellent time management skills to meet deadlines

Education and Experience:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Communications, Engineering, Science, Software or related field
  • Certificate, training or proven experience in Technical Writing
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Technical Writer role in a software development environment
  • Experience with Adobe RoboHelp
  • Experience in the specialized field of technical or scientific software

The following experience would be an asset:

  • Experience with software quality assurance and providing feedback to software developers
  • Composing documents in LaTex
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA V5, etc.
  • Working within an Agile software development environment


Software Developer (Windows and Desktop Application)

The Software Developer (Windows and Desktop Application) is responsible for designing, developing, testing implementing and supporting desktop-based software products. You will be a contributing member of the Software Development team by sharing your technical knowledge and extensive understanding of Windows software development processes and methodologies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the creation, review and documentation of system requirements
  • Create detailed technical design of software components, including related documentation
  • Develop and test software in a variety of programming languages and environments
  • Contribute to high level product design and definition
  • Participate in the estimation of work effort needed to create reliable release plans and roadmaps
  • Research and test new software development tools, techniques and technologies, as appropriate
  • Participate in the design and development of new product ideas, concepts, prototypes and proof of concept
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Education and Experience:

  • Computer Science undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
  • 3-5 years’ experience working as a Software Developer programming Windows Applications
  • Experience with the Windows Event Model and low-level Windows programming
    • Must: Winforms, WPF, C#.NET, OOP, Design Patterns, UML, Unit Testing, MVVM, Direct X, UX/UI, Fluent UI

Stamping Technical Training Consultant (Part-Time, Contract)

As a Stamping Technical Training Consultant, you may:

  • Deliver a wide range of Stamping training classes to OEM and Tier I stamping clients
  • Utilize your stamping expertise to update or modify a wide range of stamping training courses
  • Consult on a variety of stamping projects such as formability, estimating, die design, draw die development, die tryout, advanced high strength materials, aluminum panels
** Sessions will be conducted in both the US and Canada.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with OEM, Tier I stamping company or material supplier that produced high strength stampings
  • Strong understanding of Stampings and Advanced High Strength materials used in the industry
  • Experience with Build & Repair of Transfer & Progressive stamping dies for Advanced High Strength materials
